Private Trips vs Shared Sailing Tours

a small boat in a large body of water

Although Sail San Diego offers many various types of sailing experiences, they all fall under one of two main categories: private trips or shared trips. Each of our sailing yachts is always going to be captained by one of our friendly U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captains.

On a private trip, you decide who else (besides our captain) gets to be on board your sailing yacht(s) with you. On a shared trip, you will be on board with some of our other awesome guest(s).

If your own group size is 6 guests or more, this is not a decision that you need to worry about. Groups of 6 or greater always get their own private boat(s) & captain(s), by default. Only groups of 5 or less have the option of doing a shared trip or splurging on a private experience. If you have 6 or more people in your own group, then you’re going to have a private trip.

In a nutshell, here’s how it works:

  • Private trips: only your group on the boat(s)
  • Shared trips: you’ll be grouped with other Sail San Diego guests

All included amenities are identical on both private & shared trips. All trips include complimentary beer, snacks, sodas, water, free parking options & the most experienced US Coast Guard-licensed sea captains in town.

Shared trips offer smaller groups or individuals the opportunity to save a little money, and to potentially meet some new friends. Private trips offer an intimate experience for only those people in your own group. Book your private or shared San Diego sailing experience today!
