FAQs

Forget the Crowds. See San Diego the Right Way.

What happens if the weather is bad?

San Diego serves up great sailing weather most days, but if conditions aren’t safe, we’ll reschedule or refund you. No stress, no risk.

Do I need sailing experience?

Not at all. Our captains handle everything, so you can just sit back and enjoy the ride. Want to learn the ropes? We’re happy to show you.

Will I get seasick?

Most guests don’t, but if you’re worried, morning sails tend to have the calmest water. A light snack before you board and fresh air on deck help, too. No matter when you sail, our boats are very stable.

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Yep! We provide complimentary drinks and snacks, but you’re welcome to bring your own. If you’re on a private or custom sail, catering options are available too. Our newest boat, the Gulfstar 50, even offers special bar packages.

What should I wear?

San Diego’s weather is usually mild, but a light jacket is always a good call. Comfortable shoes and sunglasses won’t hurt either. And don’t forget the SPF!

Is this safe for kids?

Absolutely. Our boats are stable, our captains are USCG-certified, and we’ve got life jackets onboard. Morning sails are especially great for families.

Will this feel too touristy?

Not at all. Our sails are designed for small groups, with no crowded boats, and no canned tour guide speeches. It’s just you, your crew, and a captain who knows San Diego better than Google ever could.

What if I have more than 6 people in my group?

For larger groups, check out our private sails—you’ll get the whole boat to yourselves, with space for up to 10 guests. You can also opt for a custom sail where you pick the schedule, the activities, and you can bring up to 22 guests on our new Gulfstar 50.

How far in advance should I book?

Sooner is always better! Popular sail times fill up fast, especially for sunset sails and seasonal events.

Do you ever cancel ticketed sails?

Our ticketed sails require a minimum of 3 guests to depart. If we don’t reach that minimum, we may ask you to reschedule.

Note: this doesn’t mean you need three people in your group – just that we need to have three booked passengers in total to sail.

Is it okay if my friends or family book their tickets separately for our ticketed sail?

That’s not a problem. Just make sure you get in touch with us to let us know in advance. Otherwise, we may assign you to different boats.

Do you host corporate groups?

Yep! The Sail San Diego team are experts in  impressing clients, rewarding your team, or just getting everyone out of the office. We can handle groups big or small, keep it relaxed or competitive, and even add catering.

Can I book a sail for a special event like a birthday, bachelorette party, or proposal?

100%. We’ve hosted everything from laid-back birthday sails to once-in-a-lifetime proposals and engagement parties. Want to go big? Add champagne, catering, or even a custom itinerary to make it extra special.
